1) Find and identify trees: 10 = A; 8 = B; 6 = C 2) Fill out identification sheets. 3) Measure the height of each tree. 4) Preserve a leaf from each tree 5) Draw a picture or take a photograph of each tree. 6) Assemble materials into a folder or binder. 7) This project is due on October 29.
Preserving and Mounting Leaves 1) Place leaf between two pieces of waxed paper. 2) Be sure the "waxy" side of the paper is touching the leaf. 3) Cover with cloth. 4) Iron for about 20 seconds. (You may have to experiment a bit to find the right temperature.) 5) Tape or glue leaf to construction paper. Measuring the Height of a Tree 1) Find a stick or dowel the same length as the distance from the eye to the fist. 2) Hold the stick in a vertical position. 3) Back up until the stick appears to be the same size as the tree. 4) Measure the distance to the tree. That measurement will be the height of the tree.
